Isomer shift
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006199
A shift in the energy of nuclear transitions observed in Mössbauer spectroscopy, caused by differences in the electron density at the nucleus. This shift arises from the electrostatic interaction between the nuclear charge distribution and the s-electron density. The isomer shift provides information about the oxidation state and bonding environment of the Mössbauer active atom.
