Knight shift

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006369

A shift in the nuclear magnetic resonance frequency of a nucleus in a metal or semiconductor, relative to its frequency in a diamagnetic reference compound. This shift arises from the interaction between the nuclear magnetic moment and the magnetic moments of conduction electrons. It is proportional to the electronic spin susceptibility and provides information about the electronic structure of the material.
