Atomic spectral lines
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000903
Narrow, discrete wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation emitted or absorbed by atoms as their electrons transition between specific energy levels. Each element possesses a unique set of these lines, forming a characteristic spectral fingerprint. These lines are observed in atomic emission spectroscopy and atomic absorption spectroscopy, providing qualitative and quantitative information about elemental composition.
