Spectral line

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011130

A narrow, distinct peak or trough in a spectrum that corresponds to a specific wavelength or frequency of electromagnetic radiation. These lines result from transitions between discrete energy levels within atoms, ions, or molecules. The position and intensity of spectral lines provide information about the composition and physical conditions of a sample.
