Triplet state
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012294
An electronic state of an atom or molecule in which two electrons have parallel spins, resulting in a total spin angular momentum of S=1. This state has a spin multiplicity of 2S+1 = 3. Transitions from a triplet state to a singlet ground state are spin-forbidden, leading to relatively long lifetimes for triplet excited states compared to singlet excited states.
