Singlet-triplet energy transfer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010908
The transfer of excitation energy from an excited singlet donor to an acceptor that ends up in an excited triplet state. Because a singlet donor and a singlet acceptor have zero total spin while the final state includes a triplet, the process breaks the spin conservation rule and is normally very slow, although heavy atoms can enable it through spin-orbit coupling. The spin-allowed alternatives are singlet-singlet and triplet-triplet transfer.
