Energy transfer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003932
The non-radiative movement of electronic excitation energy from a donor molecule to an acceptor molecule, resulting in the de-excitation of the donor and excitation of the acceptor. The process can occur through coulombic interactions over long distances (Förster transfer) or via electron exchange requiring orbital overlap (Dexter transfer). The efficiency of Förster transfer is inversely proportional to the sixth power of the distance between the donor and acceptor.
