Excitation transfer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004186
The process by which electronic excitation energy is transferred from one molecule or chromophore to another without the net transfer of electrons. This phenomenon can occur through radiative mechanisms, where a photon is emitted by one molecule and absorbed by another, or non-radiative mechanisms, such as Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) or Dexter electron exchange. The efficiency of excitation transfer depends on factors such as the spectral overlap between donor emission and acceptor absorption, and the distance between the interacting species.
