Fluorescence resonance energy transfer

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004522

A non-radiative energy transfer mechanism between two light-sensitive molecules, a donor and an acceptor, where the donor's excited state energy is transferred to the acceptor without photon emission. This process occurs when the emission spectrum of the donor overlaps with the absorption spectrum of the acceptor, and the molecules are in close proximity. The efficiency of this transfer is highly dependent on the distance between the donor and acceptor, typically occurring over distances of 1 to 10 nanometers.
