Through-bond electron transfer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012039
A mechanism of electron transfer where the electron moves between a donor and an acceptor group by propagating through the covalent bonds of an intervening molecular framework. This process relies on the electronic coupling provided by the sigma or pi bonds connecting the donor and acceptor. The efficiency of this transfer decreases with increasing distance between the donor and acceptor.
