Dexter excitation transfer

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003114

A mechanism of electronic excitation energy transfer between a donor and an acceptor molecule that requires direct orbital overlap between the two species. This short-range process involves a simultaneous exchange of electrons between the donor and acceptor. The rate of Dexter transfer decreases exponentially with increasing donor-acceptor distance, typically effective within 10 Å.
