Fluorescence resonance energy transfer assay
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004523
A technique that detects the non-radiative transfer of energy from a donor fluorophore to an acceptor fluorophore when they are in close proximity, typically within 1 to 10 nanometers. This energy transfer occurs without the emission of a photon by the donor and is highly dependent on the inverse sixth power of the distance between the two fluorophores. The efficiency of energy transfer is measured by the decrease in donor fluorescence and the increase in acceptor fluorescence.
