Resonance energy
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010246
The difference in energy between the actual delocalized structure of a molecule and the most stable contributing canonical structure (Kekulé structure) that can be drawn for it. This energy difference quantifies the stabilization gained from electron delocalization. Benzene, for example, exhibits a substantial resonance energy due to its aromaticity.
