Multiplicity

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007676

A quantum mechanical property of an electronic state, defined as 2S + 1, where S is the total spin angular momentum of the electrons. It indicates the number of possible spin orientations for a given electronic configuration. Singlet states have a multiplicity of 1, while triplet states have a multiplicity of 3.
