Angular momentum
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000604
A vector quantity that measures the amount of rotational motion of a particle or body about a point, equal to the cross product of the position vector and the linear momentum, L = r x p. For a rigid body turning about a principal axis it equals the moment of inertia times the angular velocity. In quantum mechanics it is quantised, with orbital values of sqrt(l(l+1)) times the reduced Planck constant, and its SI unit is the joule second.
