Photosensitization

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008926

The process by which a photochemical reaction is initiated or accelerated by a substance, called a photosensitizer, that absorbs light and then transfers the absorbed energy to a reactant molecule. The photosensitizer itself is not consumed in the overall reaction. This mechanism is widely used in photopolymerization and photodynamic therapy.
