Phototoxicity

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008937

The property of a chemical substance to cause damage to biological tissues when exposed to light. This damage occurs through the absorption of light by the chemical, leading to the generation of reactive oxygen species or other cytotoxic products. Phototoxic reactions are dose-dependent and do not typically involve an immune response.
