Autoreactivity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001003
The condition where an individual's immune system mounts a response against its own tissues or cells, recognizing self-antigens as foreign. This phenomenon is a hallmark of autoimmune diseases, where immune tolerance mechanisms have failed. Autoreactivity can involve T lymphocytes, B lymphocytes, or both, leading to tissue damage.
