Autoimmune

Relating to an immune response directed against an organism's own tissues or cells. This occurs when the immune system mistakenly identifies self-components as foreign invaders, leading to an attack on healthy body parts. Such responses are characteristic of autoimmune diseases, where the body's protective mechanisms become self-destructive.
