Horror autotoxicus
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005396
A concept describing the body's innate mechanism to prevent the immune system from attacking its own tissues. This principle of self-tolerance, originally proposed by Paul Ehrlich, explains why the immune system does not normally produce self-destructive antibodies or T-cells. The failure of this mechanism results in the development of autoimmune diseases.
