Clonal deletion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002127
A process in immunology where self-reactive lymphocytes are eliminated during their development to prevent autoimmune responses. This mechanism removes immune cells that would otherwise attack the body's own tissues. It is a key aspect of immune tolerance, occurring primarily in the thymus for T cells and in the bone marrow for B cells.
