Self-tolerance
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010716
The state of immunological unresponsiveness to an individual's own antigens, preventing the immune system from attacking healthy tissues. This tolerance is established during lymphocyte development through processes like clonal deletion and anergy, where self-reactive immune cells are eliminated or inactivated. Failure of self-tolerance can lead to autoimmune diseases.
