Oral tolerance
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008293
A state of systemic immunological unresponsiveness to an antigen that has been administered via the oral route. This phenomenon is induced by exposure to antigens in the gastrointestinal tract, leading to a suppression of immune responses upon subsequent systemic exposure to the same antigen. It is a natural mechanism that prevents immune reactions to food components and commensal bacteria.
