Mucosal tolerance
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007614
A state of immune unresponsiveness to antigens encountered via mucosal surfaces, preventing harmful immune reactions to harmless substances like food proteins or commensal bacteria. This process involves the induction of regulatory T cells and the suppression of inflammatory responses. It is a fundamental mechanism for maintaining gut homeostasis.
