Vetoing
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013690
A mechanism of immune tolerance in which a veto cell that carries a self peptide on its MHC molecules kills, by inducing apoptosis, any lymphocyte whose receptor recognizes that peptide-MHC complex. Cells described as having veto activity include CD8-positive T cells, natural killer cells and some stem and dendritic cells. The result is deletion of the recognizing clone, not general suppression of immune activity.
