Autoimmune disease

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000972

A pathological condition arising from an abnormal immune response directed against the body's own cells, tissues, or organs. The immune system mistakenly identifies self-antigens as foreign and mounts an attack, producing autoantibodies or self-reactive T-cells that cause inflammation and tissue damage. Examples of these conditions include rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and type 1 diabetes.
