Rheumatoid factor

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010340

An autoantibody, an antibody directed against the body's own tissues, that is present in the blood of many people with rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases. These antibodies target the Fc portion of immunoglobulin G (IgG) molecules, forming immune complexes that contribute to inflammation. While most rheumatoid factors are of the IgM isotype, they can also be IgG or IgA.
