Immunoglobulin G
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005679
The most abundant class of antibody found in blood and tissue fluids, constituting about 75% of serum immunoglobulins in humans. This monomeric protein is central to the secondary immune response, providing long-term protection against bacteria, viruses, and toxins. Immunoglobulin G is the only antibody isotype capable of crossing the placental barrier, which confers passive immunity to the fetus and newborn.
