Homocytotropic antibody

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005356

An antibody that binds to cells of the same species, particularly mast cells and basophils, through its Fc region. This binding sensitizes the cells, leading to the release of inflammatory mediators upon subsequent antigen exposure. Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is a prominent example of a homocytotropic antibody in humans.
