Homodesmotic reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005357
A hypothetical reaction in which the number of bonds of a given type (e.g., C-C, C=C, C-H) and the hybridization of the atoms involved are conserved between reactants and products. These reactions are used to calculate resonance energies and strain energies by minimizing the effects of bond energy changes. They provide a more accurate measure of stabilization than isodesmic reactions.
