Fc receptor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004361
A receptor protein on the surface of certain immune cells that binds the Fc tail region of an antibody. It couples antibodies to cellular effector functions: when pathogens coated with antibody (opsonized) bind Fc receptors on phagocytes, the cells engulf and destroy them, and on natural killer cells the binding triggers antibody-dependent cytotoxicity. Separate receptors exist for each antibody class, such as FcγR for IgG and FcεR for IgE.
