Isotype
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006266
A class or subclass of immunoglobulin molecules defined by differences in the constant region of their heavy chains and sometimes light chains. These differences determine the effector functions of the antibody, such as complement activation or binding to Fc receptors. In humans, there are five main antibody isotypes: IgA, IgD, IgE, IgG, and IgM.
