Constant region

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002466

The relatively invariant portion of an immunoglobulin or T-cell receptor polypeptide chain, located at the carboxyl-terminal end. This region determines the effector functions of antibodies, such as complement activation or binding to Fc receptors, and provides structural stability to the receptor. It contrasts with the variable region, which is responsible for antigen binding specificity.
