Variable region

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012516

The portion of an antibody or T-cell receptor protein that exhibits high sequence variability and is responsible for binding to specific antigens. This region is formed by the recombination of variable, diversity, and joining gene segments. It determines the specificity of the immune response to a particular pathogen or molecule.
