Hypervariable region

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005534

A segment within the variable region of an antibody or T-cell receptor that exhibits a high degree of amino acid sequence diversity among different individuals. These regions are responsible for antigen binding specificity, allowing the immune system to recognize a vast array of foreign molecules. There are typically three hypervariable regions, also known as complementarity-determining regions (CDRs), in each variable domain.
