Enhancing antibody

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013073

An antibody that attaches to an already formed antibody-antigen complex, or to an idiotype-anti-idiotype pair, and makes the interaction stronger. It acts on the immune complex rather than on free antigen. The term is also used for antibodies that raise the infectivity of a virus, as in antibody-dependent enhancement of dengue, where antibody-coated virus enters cells carrying Fc receptors at a higher rate.
