Precipitating antibody
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009346
An antibody that forms an insoluble complex with its specific antigen, leading to the formation of a visible precipitate. This reaction occurs when the antibody and antigen are present in optimal proportions, allowing for cross-linking and lattice formation. The precipitin reaction is a fundamental technique in immunodiffusion assays for detecting and quantifying antigens or antibodies.
