Equivalence zone

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004075

The range of concentrations in a precipitin reaction where the ratio of antigen to antibody is optimal for the formation of an insoluble immune complex. Within this zone, both antigen and antibody are almost completely precipitated from the solution, resulting in maximum lattice formation. In zones of antigen excess or antibody excess, which lie outside this range, precipitation is inhibited because the complexes formed are smaller and more soluble.
