Equivalence postulate

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004074

A working hypothesis of chain structure analysis that all monomeric units of a chain are geometrically equivalent, with identical bond lengths, bond angles and torsion angles. It underlies models of regular helical chains such as the polypeptide alpha helix, where each residue is assumed to sit in the same environment. It is distinct from the principle of equal reactivity, which says that a functional group reacts independently of the length of the chain carrying it.
