Zone
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012814
A region within a chromatographic column or separation system where a particular component or group of components of a mixture is concentrated. As the mobile phase carries the sample through the stationary phase, different components migrate at different rates, forming distinct zones. The efficiency of a chromatographic separation is often evaluated by the sharpness and separation of these zones.
