Zone melting method of preconcentration
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012815
A technique used for purifying solid materials or preconcentrating trace impurities by creating a molten zone that slowly moves through a solid ingot. Impurities tend to segregate into either the solid or liquid phase, and by repeatedly passing the molten zone, they can be swept to one end of the ingot. This method is particularly effective for achieving very high purity levels in materials like semiconductors.
