Enkephalin
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003939
A pentapeptide neurotransmitter that acts as an endogenous opioid, binding to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord. It is involved in pain modulation, stress response, and mood regulation. Two primary forms exist, Met-enkephalin and Leu-enkephalin, differing by a single amino acid residue at the C-terminus.
