N-terminus
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008091
The end of a peptide or protein chain that terminates with an amino acid residue having a free amine group (-NH2). By convention, the amino acid sequence of a polypeptide is written starting from the N-terminus on the left and proceeding to the C-terminus on the right. The identity of the N-terminal amino acid can be determined using methods like Edman degradation.
