Autologous antibody

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000989

An antibody that derives from a specific individual and acts within that same individual, as opposed to an antibody supplied from another person or species. It is defined by its source and not by its target, so it may be directed at a pathogen as well as at self-antigens, which are the targets of autoantibodies. A heterologous antibody comes from a different individual or species.
