Autoantibody

An antibody produced by an organism that is directed against its own tissues or cells. These antibodies are a hallmark of autoimmune diseases, where the immune system mistakenly attacks self-antigens. The presence of specific autoantibodies can be used as diagnostic markers for conditions like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis.
