Lupus anticoagulant

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006815

An autoantibody that interferes with in vitro phospholipid-dependent coagulation tests, leading to prolonged clotting times, despite paradoxically increasing the risk of thrombosis in vivo. These antibodies are directed against phospholipid-binding proteins, such as beta-2-glycoprotein I or prothrombin. The presence of lupus anticoagulant is a diagnostic criterion for antiphospholipid syndrome.
