Therapeutic antibody
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011925
An antibody given to a patient to treat disease, most often a monoclonal antibody engineered to bind a defined target such as a cell surface receptor or a soluble protein, though polyclonal preparations such as antivenoms and immune globulins also qualify. Such antibodies act by blocking the target's function, marking a cell for destruction by the immune system, or delivering a conjugated toxin or drug to a diseased cell.
