Molecular target
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007524
A specific molecule within a biological system, such as a protein or nucleic acid, that is directly involved in a disease process and can be modulated by a drug or therapeutic agent. The interaction between the drug and its molecular target is designed to alter the target's function, thereby producing a therapeutic effect. Many modern drugs are developed to selectively bind to and inhibit the activity of specific enzymes or receptors.
