Autologous
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000988
Relating to cells, tissues, or other biological materials that are derived from and returned to the same individual. In this type of transplantation or transfusion, the donor and recipient are the same person, which eliminates the risk of immunological rejection and graft-versus-host disease. An example is an autologous bone marrow transplant, where a patient's own stem cells are harvested before chemotherapy and then reinfused.
