Graft-versus-host disease

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004989

A severe immunological complication that arises when immune cells from a transplanted donor (the graft) recognize the recipient's tissues (the host) as foreign and attack them. This condition most commonly occurs after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, such as bone marrow transplants. Symptoms can affect the skin, liver, and gastrointestinal tract.
